The fifth UIUC-SLIS class last Friday was a lot of fun! We met in Caledon and danced our way through class to streaming period background music. I had wondered about the dances I'd seen advertised, and now I know it can be lots of fun.
The topic of class was management of virtual libraries, and was approached from two standpoints: that of a large system (Alliance Second Life Library) and that of a small single branch (Caledon). Although some aspects are the same in SL as in RL, others

I think my presence in this course is star-crossed. I had signed up for a 9-11pm reference shift on Info Island, during which I would be shadowing the librarian on duty. I logged on to SL a little before 9pm to find there was a new version of the software that I must download in order to connect. Okay, so there goes 10 minutes. After I'm up on the new version, I read the posts that say the server's been down and it's a hardware issue. I connect and arrive at the SL Library Welcome area - and
