Mitch Wagner of the tech periodical, "Information Week," provides a somewhat lengthy (7 web pages) , detailed article on the various occurrences of sexuality within Second Life, titled, Sex in Second Life, having spoken with Linden Labs founder Philip Rosedale as well as a few escorts and sex club owners. There's information about the disturbing findings of the German authorities, some quotes from columnist Dan Savage, and links to several Second Life blogs and news sources. Definitely one to read all the way through; if Second Life grows in the overall public consciousness and activity, questions will be asked about this aspect of it.

I thought it was an interesting article. I read Mitch's SL blog regularly. I guess the only caveat I have about this article which seems to be written for a wider audience is that he didn't spell out that Linden officially restricts where minors can go - the teen grid - and that that is PG. Everyone on main grid is presumed to be over 18.

I wish that had been stated, too! Especially when Wagner and Rosedale start talking about age verification, confusing the issue of the children avatars and the ageplay. The people involved are assumed to be adults; it's the avatar ageplay that can get sexual and disturbing.

Second Life might be cracking down, making life safer. I wondered if it might be pressure from the nonprofit educational side, which seems to be driving a lot of the improvements going on with SL. A friend told me that the German govt has threatened to cut connections with SL! I don't see any reports on that, but there's a substantial German population in SL.
